Vik Muniz Poster To Raise Money
for
Tsunami Reconstruction in Japan
In response to the devastating March 11 earthquake and tsunami, Students Rebuild and DoSomething.org launched
“Paper Cranes for Japan,” a campaign to inspire young people worldwide to support their Japanese peers.
For every paper crane mailed to Students Rebuild, the Bezos Familiy Foundation would donate $2 to
Architecture for Humanity’s Sendai reconstruction work. Our goal was 100,000 cranes, which would trigger $200,000; the response—an incredible 2 MILLION CRANES from young people in 38 countries
worldwide and all 50 U.S. states—exceeded our wildest hopes. Wowed by the global outpouring of support for Japan,
celebrated artist Vik Muniz generously donated his time, his vision and his creativity to produce a magnificent piece
of original artwork using thousands of the cranes. “It’s alchemic,” Muniz tells The New York Times Sunday Magazine (Aug 21, 2011).
“It worked because everyone wanted to help.” Vik’s work is being printed as 40” x 50” poster for $30 USD , including shipping and handling within the US. ( For international order is $175) The character on the poster means “together” and represents the thousands of people worldwide who came together to fold cranes and support Japan after the disaster. Proceeds from sales go to Architecture for Humanity’s reconstruction efforts in and around Sendai.
