Janaina Tschape
Lacrimacorpus
14 October - 12 November 2005
Reception: 14 October 18:00 - 20:00
nichido contemporary art is pleased to inform that we are going to present, the German-Brazilian artist Janaina Tschape's second solo show in Tokyo, Japan.
About the series of "Lacrimacorpus", Latin for "tear-body", the artist describe as following;
I directed and produced this work and filmed it in Weimar, Germany. This is a site-specific work where I felt compelled to consider the history of Weimar. In the past, Weimar was an important center for cultural, social and political activities as well as a place that had undergone many transformations: from Romaticism, Fascism, Socialism, and Bauhaus to Modernism. Walking through Weimar is like walking through a museum of history where so much information is contained in one space. I dressed my friend Jenny in costumes that were used during the premiere of Faust by Goethe in Weimar. I used the music box motif to construct and express history as it relates to both realism and romanticism of memory.
The exhibition is consisted of 6 photographic works and 1 DVD, which have shown at ACC gallery Weimar in 2004, along with the Polaroids and Drawings, which are made especially for this show.
Gallery open hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 11:00 am - 7:00 pm
