Rio Paralympics Opening Ceremony |
As one of the artistic directors, Vik Muniz took part in the opening ceremony of the Rio Paralympic Games which ended on September 18th.
During the Parade of Nations, each country held a placard in the shape of a jigsaw puzzle piece,
emblazoned with the country’s name and representing the pictures of its participating athletes, and placed its piece on the stage floor.
Vik Muniz concluded the parade holding the last piece of his country, Brazil.
Once the piece was placed on the floor, the completed jigsaw puzzle turned into a video installation of a beating heart.
The hearth’s concept was based on this Paralympics theme “The heart knows no limit. Everybody has a heart”,
celebrating the devotion these athletes have for sport and the effort they make to overcome any limits.
